I know it's still over three months away but getting my ticket has me excited for it already. This is easily the most diverse festival lineup I've seen and I don't know how I'll manage to see all the acts I want to see. Although I think they could've made some better choices in terms of 1 of the headliners (would the red hot chili peppers just fucking go away already?) and the "dance" acts (Tiesto and Paul Van Dyke are just terrible), I couldn't have asked for many other changes to the lineup. Check it out:

God, you're lucky. I wish I could go. Sadly, I live on the other side of the country. I've always wanted to go to Coachella, though, and that lineup's amazing.
Feh. Everyone seems to like all these eighties-style indie artists (the new pornographers, of montreal, etc); the only ones I would liike to see there are El-P and possibly DJ Shadow.
What are you talking about? RHCP is one of my favorite bands.
OH god! I so want to go to this thing!
I'd go for Tiesto, Richie Hawtin, David Guetta, and Nickel Creek especially. I wish they could've gotten Markus Schulz to do something there, too, sort of following the trend of tiesto, Hawtin, and Guetta.
All in all: sounds like a wonderful line-up, do post and tell us all what you thought of it.
Yeah I live on the other side of the country as well; will be well worth the trip listed though.
Richy Hawtin should be awesome... One of the pioneers of minimal techno. I was disappointed at the lack of minimal house/techhouse producers.
I'm loving this new wave resurgance... looking forward to lcd soundsystem, Hot Chip, the juan maclean (I think they'll get added), Of Montreal (it'll be my fourth time seeing them and their stuff from before 2004 was nothing like what they're playing now) and Junior Boys just to name a few. A reunited Jesus and Mary Chain should be interesting too. Oh and Air and Bjork! I hope I won't have to make many tough choices based on scheduling conflicts.
I don't think RHCP have made a decent album since 1997.
I saw some of these acts at a small festival thing in college. The following is just my opinion. I'd say definetly check out rage against the machine and the chili peppers if rock is your thing. They both put on an energetic show. I happen to like Paul van dike's somewhat older material. I saw ghost face killer and blond red head and quite frankly, they sucked. DJ shadow is okay. I'd suggest seeing willie nelson not for his performance or his voice but for the fact that he's a unique songwriter and his band is pretty tight and organic.
I, too, am a fan of the "new wave"-sounding stuff. Of Montreal's latest album (Hissing Fauna, are you the destroyer) is quite good.
As for Blonde Redhead, I hear they're hit or miss. My friend saw them open for Sleater-Kinney on their tour supporting One Beat, and he said they were amazing. But I've heard from others that their live shows are disappointing. Haven't seen them, myself.
The New Pornographers definitely put on an amazing live show, though, especially if Neko and Dan are with them. If you're into them, check out their set if you can.
Ohohoh! The Decemberists! Regina Spektor! Of Montreal! Tilly and the Wall! Fair to Midland! Rufus Wainwright! I could go on and on and on and on and ... I wanna gooooooo!
And I agree that the Chili Peppers aren't that great. They're okay, just a bit overrated. Their older stuff is better.
Yeah Hissing Fauna... is indeed a masterpiece. Possibly my favorite album this year so far. The electronic production is so smooth and intricate and the continuous flow of the album and the way the lyrics of each song tie in together make it feel like one long piece of music. I don't know much about blond redhead or the new pornographers but will definitely check them out if I have the chance.
Here's what I'd check out.
BTW, there are 2 DJ Shadows. Is the DJ Shadow that's going to be there the one from Detroit, or the UK?
OH god! TRENTEMOLLER!
I had no idea there were two DJ Shadows.
Thanks for the info, Scott.
Also, it'd be interesting to hear new stuff from The Arcade Fire (they've been previewing it at some shows in Montreal, apparently). Lots of other great acts there, too. Brazilian Girls, Regina Spektor, The Decemberists (although I appear to be the only person who didn't think The Crane Wife was teh best album ever OMG!), Sonic Youth (one of the best live bands... hands down), Lily Allen, Interpol, Jose Gonzolez, Etc. Etc. Etc... I really wish I could justify the ticket price, the airfare and the time off from school...
Ehh, I dunno. I really like The Crane Wife. I don't know that I'd say it's the best album ever, or even the best of the Decemberists, but I am slightly in love with it. "O Valencia!", "Yankee Bayonet", and so on.
Ha, yeah, that's what I meant, in my overexaggerated way. It's good, solid, and all that, but I know a lot of people who think it's the best thing the decemberists have done, the most innovative, Etc.
I was planning to check out most of the acts on your list KC8pnl.
Yeah I agree that they should've gotten Trentemoller instead of those more expensive dj's that haven't done anything relevant in the last 10 years. And I'm pretty sure the dj shadow listed is the UK/Bay area one. Also didn't know there was one in Detroit with the same name. I was on an infected mushroom/other psy-trance kick for a while but that got kinda stale too. And while the Crane Wife is solid, it's hard to say it's the best decemberists album IMO. Definitely the best-produced, though.
FYI, there's a leak of the new arcade fire disc going around and I've been reading nothing but rave reviews of it so far.
And Sonic Youth live is supposedly a religious experience. :) So much here to list that this post could go on forever.
I'm also happy to see Justice listed. A bunch of the tracks/remixes they've produced are like nothing I've heard. That should help fill my glitchy electro-house fix.
The Mixmag CD put together by Erol Alkan is worth checking out if you enjoy electro.I think the reason they put some of these producers/dj's on these festivals is to draw people to familiar artests in the hopes that they will discover new artests at the same time. The Detroit DJ Shadow does that booty music that I am sooooo sick of. I've never checked out Justice, so that will be something new for me to check out. Oh, and one other thing. I'm not actually going to be able to go to this thing, I was just saying who I would check out if I could. I don't have the money to fly over to Europe right now, and I'll be doing a summer semester at that time anyway.
Coachella's in Indio, California, not Europe. One of my roommates lives in Indio, and she said that when she was in high school, she could hear the festival from her house.

For some stupid reason, I thought it was in Italy. LOL. I wasn't able to find much live content from Justice, but I haven't had time to check all of my available resources. Based on your description though, I'll like it
Justice V. Busy P on some radio show in Paris last month I think:
http://speakerfunk.dyndns.org:8888/Justice%20&%20Busy%20P%20-%20live%20@%20NITSA%20(January%202007).mp3
Nice long (mostly electro/house) mix.
The Jesus and Mary Chain are playing a small intimate show a day prior to the festival; too bad my flight will get into LA too late for me to make it over there.
9 days to go. :)
